What does a CVOR Driver Abstract contain?
Ontario describes the CVOR Driver Abstract as a five-year record of collisions, safety-related offences, convictions and inspections relating to a driver. It only includes this event information from when the driver was operating in Ontario. The record also shows the driver’s licence status and medical due date.
Why might a commercial carrier request it?
Commercial carriers have responsibilities related to driver qualification and safety. Ontario’s Commercial Vehicle Operators’ Safety Manual identifies a CVOR Driver’s Abstract obtained within the preceding 12 months as a required document associated with Ministry facility audits for applicable driver files.
This makes the CVOR Driver Abstract particularly relevant to trucking and other commercial-driving employment and compliance processes.
Is it the same as a carrier CVOR abstract?
No. Ontario also offers CVOR Level 1 and Level 2 carrier abstracts. Level 1 summarizes a carrier’s record, while Level 2 provides more detailed carrier event information. A CVOR Driver Abstract relates to an individual driver’s commercial safety history.
How far back does it go?
The CVOR Driver Abstract covers five years of the applicable commercial-driving events described by Ontario. That differs from the common personal 3-year driver record.
