Why driving jobs may ask for a driver abstract
A driving role puts your licence status and driving history directly in scope for an employer or platform. Ontario notes that driver records may be needed when applying for a job, and describes the 3-year driver record as the most popular record commonly used for employment reasons.
A request for an abstract does not mean every company uses the same acceptance standard. One business may ask for a recent 3-year record while another may have its own screening requirements.
What is on an Ontario 3-year driver record?
The 3-year driver record includes driver identification details, the demerit-point total, active fine suspensions, and relevant convictions, suspensions and reinstatements from the past three years. It does not include the driver’s residential address.

Driver abstract or driver’s licence history?
These records are not interchangeable. A driver’s licence history focuses on licensing history such as replacements, renewals and class changes and does not include the demerit-point total or conviction and suspension information. If a recruiter simply asks for a driving record, ask which specific record they require.

How recent should the abstract be?
There is no single document-age rule that applies to every rideshare or delivery company. Check the current onboarding instructions from the company receiving your record. Ordering before confirming the requirement can leave you with the wrong record or a document older than the recipient accepts.
