What is a CVOR Driver Abstract?
Ontario describes the CVOR Driver Abstract as a five-year record of a commercial driver’s safety performance. It can include collisions, safety-related offences, convictions and inspections relating to the driver while operating in Ontario. It also shows driver-licence status and the medical due date.

Why do inspections appear on the record?
Commercial-vehicle enforcement includes inspections of drivers and vehicles. Ontario’s CVOR system uses safety-performance information, including inspections, as part of its commercial carrier and driver records.
An inspection entry should not automatically be interpreted as the same thing as a conviction. Inspections and convictions are separate types of safety information, and the context of the record matters.
What is a Commercial Vehicle Inspection Report?
Ontario says Commercial Vehicle Inspection Reports, or CVIRs, are completed by officers during level 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 inspections of drivers and/or commercial vehicles. A CVIR is therefore a specific inspection report, while a CVOR Driver Abstract is a broader five-year record containing specified driver safety information.
How is this different from a regular driver abstract?
The common Ontario 3-year driver record focuses on information such as demerit points, active fine suspensions, and certain convictions, suspensions and reinstatements. The CVOR Driver Abstract is designed for the commercial-driving context and covers a five-year period.

A commercial carrier may review driver information as part of its safety and compliance processes. Drivers may also want to understand what appears on their CVOR record before an employment or carrier review.
